Interconnect - public transport is the future
The Interconnect thematic seminars which took place in Karlskrona and Gdynia on the 13th and 22nd February 2018, respectively, were the first two of five seminars dedicated to the vision of the regional and cross-boarder public transport in the countries of the South Baltic area - Estonia, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden.
Lead by the Swedish Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) and supported by the project partners, the one day seminars were divided into lectures and workshops.
Participants of the seminars were represented by the members of the local or regional governments, institutions, transportation companies, and others identified as the key mobility stakeholders from the regions where the seminars took place. They had a unique opportunity to meet, discuss and share their experience, knowledge and issues of the various aspects of public transport, such as passenger aspects (accessibility, common ticketing, information systems, etc.), technical and environmental aspects (current and future infrastructure, modes of public transport, sustainable fuels and energy resources, etc.), legal, economical issues and business models in regional and cross-border public transport.
Ideas and suggestions from the discussions and workshops were collected by the BTH team and will be further analysed in order to prepare a comprehensive report on the vision of public transport in the project area.
Interconnect, the project for “Better public transport services for regional and cross-border travels in the South Baltic area” is an EU Interreg South Baltic Programme flagship project and addresses the challenge of curbing the car-reliant mobility trend in the area.
